![]() Verdict: This is the most solid coord so far. My favourite pose in this time period was unwound wind-up toyĭid someone say succumbing to hype? It really took me a long time to develop taste of my own in the fashion, although you do steadily see the progression away from sweet and towards gothic. It’s worse than the above coord, due to the unbalanced top and bottom halves. Verdict: Very much a case of using whatever I had in my closet that matched. These shoes are certainly seeing a lot of wear. I’ve actually grown to dislike this dress by now, and had to sell it because it was ill-fittingly large, but at the time I was overjoyed that Holy Lantern was getting rereleased. There’s nothing glaringly wrong with it and it’s fine as a casual outfit but there’s again a lack of cohesiveness and theme.Īnd then I succumbed to another hype. This picture shows me at probably the highest weight I’ve ever been, and looking at it really shows me how far I’ve come since then! I’ve realised by now that I like wearing black, although I’m still not really settled into any one substyle. None of the accessories are era appropriate and I hesitate to even call it old school, but as a sweet coord, it works. My first foray into old school came because the dress was cheap. Verdict: The black wig was a mistake, but the vest and necklace add a nice amount of detail to this coord. This is also pretty much the only time I wore my glasses with lolita. Still, I had a nice time at this meet and my comm was very welcoming. Because I lived in the south and travel time to meets was huge, I didn’t go to many meets, and making friends was difficult because I simply saw other lolitas too rarely. Yes, this is almost the same as the previous coord, but I wanted to highlight it because this is what I wore to my first meet with my comm, and my first tea party. This is probably the worst pose in this entire post. It’s not awful, but I would never say this is a good coord. While the rest of the coord toes the line between gothic and classic, the shoes are too sweet to go with either and muddle the aesthetic. The shoes are by far the greatest offender. Verdict: I would place this one solidly between the previous two. Good purchases, beginner me! This was when flower crowns were popular and I was apparently susceptible to trends, so I commissioned the headdress from a local seller. The blouse and socks are the most gothic items I could find on the Innocent World site and I actually still wear both. I bought this skirt at the aforementioned Osharecon, embracing my love for gothic just a little. Everyone knew what I wore by that point so it was no surprise to anyone, and I don’t regret it at all. This is what I wore to my high school prom. ![]() I can’t even really point out anything I would change, the coord is going for a specific look and it succeeds at that! Verdict: Though simple, I actually think this coord is surprisingly good compared to my first one! It’s not my style anymore, but I wouldn’t mind wearing this outfit even now. It’s certainly a different approach than I take now to wardrobe building! Then I collected every piece I would need to coordinate it effectively. I decided I had to have this AP dress and shortly after I saw it for sale secondhand so I jumped on it. The convention itself was highly mediocre, but I was mostly just excited to meet other lolitas so I had a good time. ![]() This photo was taken at the first edition of Osharecon, a jfashion convention in the Netherlands. Still no better in the posing department. Ita or not, it’s still pretty bad.Ĭoord 2, the first one I wore to a lolita event. Verdict: The white blouse + dark brown socks combination is… questionable, and overall there is no real sense of cohesiveness but I do think I succesfully avoided an ita phase. At this point in time my hair wasn’t very lolita-suitable, but I was also convinced that wigs were a requirement so I ordered a number from Lockshop, which was very popular at the time. That cream blouse with brown details would certainly have improved this coord, but alas. ![]() I ordered an Innocent World blouse too, but I got the wrong size and had to sell it. That wishy-washy approach led to this not-quite-classic, not-quite-sweet coord. My first purchase was from Innocent World, which was motivated primarily by their accessible and easy to order from website, rather than me particularly liking their aesthetic. I didn’t really think about what substyle or aesthetics I liked, I just wanted to wear a frilly dress and then I’d be happy. ![]() I had turned 18 not long ago and was in my final year of high school. My very first coord! I clearly did not know how to pose. When I was just getting started in the fashion it always inspired me to see the first coords of lolitas I admired. I thought it would be fun to share my journey through lolita fashion in coords, as God knows I started in a place quite different from where I ended up. ![]()
